ABOUT THE ARTIST

HI! I’m Cat Jackson. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to visit.

I make one of a kind functional and sculptural clay art. I hand build and wheel throw clay in my home studio. My favorite part of the process is the designing, glazing & decorating.

Years before I discovered clay, painting with acrylics and lino-cut printing were my mediums. I combine all these aesthetics to make my current ceramic work. I like bold images, saturated colors, and clean lines. When illustrating a piece, I usually stick with a limited color palette and am very interested in the negative space created.

I am inspired by nature esp. birds, symbols, powerful and sassy women, feminine rage, skulls, my wayward youth, block printing, tattoo imagery, color, pattern, pottery from other eras (the 30s, 40s, mid-century modern, 60s) and many other things.

I have and will donate work for causes I feel especially passionate about; access to abortion and medical care for women, wild animal rehab and environmental protection, supporting the arts and social justice for all including the LGBTQ+ community.

My educational background includes a bachelor’s in design and a master’s in social work.

Life is short. Buy the funky pottery.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit!

WHERE TO FIND ME

Along with selling my art online, I do sell my work at art fairs during the summer months. Please see my upcoming events here.

I am very happy to sell work at Art Cats Gallery in Muskegon and at the gift shop at the fabulous Muskegon Museum of Art . In 2023 I had the pleasure to collaborate with Paul and Amanda at the best record store in the state, Third Coast Vinyl in Muskegon, to create some pieces for their store.

This year I am so excited to share a wonderful collab with Fabrikate. Kate makes super cool bags and sachels and is featuring some of my clay people on them! Check them out here!!

I am a proud member and board member of the West Michigan Potters Guild which hosts two shows each year in Grand Rapids. Check out the link above for info!

BIRDMAGIC

I named my business birdmagic because birds are very important in my life.  I feel like they are keepers of wisdom and they bring messages to me. Birds are fragile and resilient, fierce and weightless, complex and essential. They are so important to the world. You can tell the health of an environment by how prevalent and healthy the birds are.  Birds are indicators for me. They are magic.

COMMISSIONS

I am open to commissions if it is something made in my style. Contact me and we can talk about it!
