Glazing is my favorite stage of the process!

I hear a lot of potters say they hate glazing. I love it, maybe because my background in painting. What is magical about glazing is that some of the glazes in the jars are not the colors they turn out to be after firing and they can change when layered. Layering glazes can result in different results depending on thickness of glaze, glaze layer order, what the pot is next to in the kiln, etc. So many variables! This makes opening a kiln an exciting event!

I use underglazes for my illustrative work. Underglazes don’t move or mix when fired so they are great for making precise images on clay.
